Cranberry sauce is a Christmas Classic these days! When I was growing up we didnt really eat much of it, but I remember my sister making it quite a few years ago now, and the addiction started from there. This Home made cranberry sauce recipe is fruity, tangy and doesn’t get much easier!
Why make homemade cranberry sauce?
Now one thing I would say about making cranberry sauce at home is that your kitchen will be filled with the most delicious, sweet, fruity smell which you most certainly do not get from a jar! It hit me like a wall the first time I made it and was enough to never buy another jar of the stuff again.
When you make it fresh its so much richer and more full of flavour than when you buy it. In my opinion there is no competition.
Plus, a good dollop of cranberry sauce in a turkey sandwich, with a bit of mayo, a slice of good cheese, some lettuce and thinly sliced onion…you dont get better than that for a quick lunch!
Can I use fresh or frozen cranberries?
Yes! You can change up either as you wish. For this recipe I have used frozen cranberries as they are so convenient. They are also more readily available fraozen through out the year as we sometimes make this mid summer just to change things up a bit…
How do I store it?
Chances are you are going to make it somewhere around christmas so you can make it up to a week in advance and keep it in an air tight container in the fridge.
If you want to keep it for longer it will freeze for up to two months. It can be frozen in ice cube trays and then decanted into an air tight bag if you want homemade cranberry sauce every now and then.
Additions…
There are all manner of christmassy additions you can add to your cranberry sauce including pecans, raisins, currants, cinamon, nutmeg and allspice. I like to keep my recipe classic in this case but go ahead and try a sprinkle of something if it takes your fancy…
