A tasty twist on a standard can of baked beans! A good vege alternative to your classic vege burger recipe. A great midweek dinner idea. Give it a go!
Ingredients…
- 1 can of baked beans
- 60g oats
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 small carrot, grated
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Burger buns and desired toppings (lettuce, tomato, cheese)
Method…
- Drain excess liquid from the canned baked beans, you want to loose most of it to get your patty to stay together. Put the baked beans into a bowl and mash with a fork.
- Add oats, grated carrot, diced onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to the mashed beans. Mix everything until well combined.
- Form into patties. You should get 4 or 5 descent sized patties from this mixture.
- Heat a small glug of oil in a frying pan and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve up in toasted buns with the toppings of your choice!
Tips and Tricks…
- leave the mixture for the oats to soak up the juice and become a slightly meaty texture
- serve with a nice thick slice of cheese and crispy bacon…delicious!
- the critical point in this recipe is the amount of liquid you drain in the first step, if you dont drain enough it will be too wet and melt when you cook it.
